You can visit Egypts tombs and temples on the Myegypt blogs. if it carries on the way it is in Egypt the muslims will demolish or sell anything to do with life pre Mohamed. there are a few of my bloodspots on line, even though the powers that be in Egypt downed a few while I lived in Luxor Egypt, they cannot stand the truth getting out of Egypt most of the Nile pollution and what they are doing to pollute the land and building on the wild life sanctuaries, have been taken down by the regime. do not think for one minute that things have changed in Egypt since the youth revolution back in Feb 2010. the old regime is still in power. most are now squabbling over the stolen land that was given to `mubarak and co. Zahi Hawass could have done a lot more to protect egypt's treasures but he also is corrupt. Medinet Habu is the name commonly given to the Mortuary Temple of Ramesses 111
an important New Kingdom period structure in the location of the same name on the West Bank of Luxor in Egypt. Aside from its intrinsic size and architectural and artistic importance, the temple is probably best known as the source of inscribed reliefs depicting the advent and defeat of the Sea Peoples during the reign of Ramesses III

The temple, some 150 m long, is of orthodox design, and resembles closely the nearby mortuary temple of Ramesses II (the Ramesseum). The temple precinct measures approximately 700 ft (210 m). by 1,000 ft (300 m) and contains more than 75,350 sq ft (7,000 m2) of decorated wall reliefs.[1] Its walls are relatively well preserved and it is surrounded by a massive mudbrick enclosure, which may have been fortified. The original entrance is through a fortified gate-house, known as a migdol (a common architectural feature of Asiatic fortresses of the time).

Just inside the enclosure, to the south, are chapels of Amenirdis I, Shepenupet II and Nitiqret, all of whom had the title of Divine Adoratrice of Amun.

The first pylon leads into an open courtyard, lined with colossal statues of Ramesses III as Osiris on one side, and uncarved columns on the other. The second pylon leads into a peristyle hall, again featuring columns in the shape of Ramesses. This leads up a ramp that leads (through a columned portico) to the third pylon and then into the large hypostyle hall (which has lost its roof). Reliefs and actual heads of foreign captives were also found placed within the temple perhaps in an attempt to symbolise the king's control over Syria and Nubia.

In Coptic times, there was a church inside the temple structure, which has since been removed. Some of the carvings in the main wall of the temple have been altered by coptic carvings.

I can see I need to go inside the temple again no one has any decent photos of this temple.

What is left of the tomb robbers houses the area had more than 1000 houses all have been taken down some say they will make a museum of the remainder these have no tombs under them

more than 150 tombs have been discovered since the demolition of these houses
this is just one small area that stretched for some 3 kilometers along the mountain range known as Thebes. there is 10 tombs in this photo. and of course there is nothing inside even the wall paintings have been cut out and sold , so some people do have genuine Pharaohs pieces.

The blog will take at least two days as there are more than 50 photos to show plus photos of the excavations on the perimeter wall to drain off the water table why they are unearthing the footings of the structure is a mystery, in some parts the footings of the temple are 6meters underground, this first shot is of the old entrance gate the work here is done and filled back in
It shows what a sham the Egyptians make of getting pharaonic pieces back from museums abroad, when they cant even look after what they have

Here the excavation crew have deemed it OK to set fire to 3500 year old mud brick wall part of the outer perimeter wall of the temple Just as much history in the outer wall as the temple itself

This is part of the corner stones of the main stone wall of the temple. behind this wall once lay the priests bathing pool that has long gone and there has been no attempt to dig the old structure out, but here they are digging. There is a time when all the neighboring houses will be destroyed all part of UNESCO 1970s plan that there will be no buildings 700 meters of any ancient tomb or temple. they have had the money to relocate all these people. so why did they not take the properties down before digging this trench so near the temple walls.
From what I see the temple was built on bedrock. So any trench that is built weather its 1 or 50 meters from the wall the water will find its way to that lower point. but after all these are Egyptians and do what they want or think whats best at the time its not their money and if the job is not right they will plead poverty and get more to do the Job again.

our captain Ragab was quite informative and said there are 33 balloons in the area but only Eight can be on the take off area at one time , the flights from first light then every 45 minutes the time of each flight before landing.

As I was on one of my outings Just get on a microbus and decided to stop anywhere that looks interesting usually to photograph the life in the village.the place I asked to get off was about 10 kilometer from Luxor On the Quena Rd and quite near the Nile. the village itself as about 200 meters from the main road along a dirt track and I was thinking this should be interesting and as there was a canal running through it maybe I will get some wildlife photos,I headed along through the village no one said nothing only in answer to my Good morning I arabic )Silfachacher) and answered silfachanoor, most likely thought I was an Egyptian, ( there are white ones here) heading towards the Nile I came across this Temple visitors are not allowed in but if I would see my way to giving the guard 100egp I could go in and take photos. from what I could see from where I was it was not worth it its only 70egp to go into Karnak temple. I just took these shots by the time I was ready to leave all the village was out there looking for money from the tourist that happened to come across their temple. we need money. we need your money. No thank you I said I do not need your money. they looked a bit stupid at me when I said that, then the one girl came out with no we no give you money, we need your money. so I put my camera away and legged it out of there. these toe rags really know how to spoil ones day,

Gebel el-Silsila is 65 km north of Aswan, where the cliffs on both sides of the Nile narrow. The name Kheny (or sometimes Khenu) means "The Place of Rowing". It was used as a quarry site from at least the 18th Dynasty to Greco-Roman times.

On the west bank is a rock cut shrines for Horemheb, Seti I, Ramesses II and Merenptah.

Many of the talatats used by Akhenaten were quarried from here, and used in buildings at Luxor and Amarna. Akhenaten's sculptor Bek oversaw the opening of a stone quarry here.

This is the pylon in Edfu Temple most Temples have two some have three,
also a few of the pylons have been demolished some say the temple of Pharaoh Amenhotep III.
was destroyed by the Pharaos others say by earthquake. most of the stones from the Gebel el-Silsila where used to construct other buildings. but originaly sat inside these huge pylons the smallest is 100 ft high

click on this one of Cleopatra and son. and for those of you going to visit the temple this is the rear end of the temple. you need at least an hour in the compound not 20 minutes, the tour opperators allow.

Abydos is one of the best complete temples in Egypt,
and is a must visit if you come to Egypt .
it is a scenic route through Egypt 3 hours drive from Luxor.
and taking in the next Temple of Abydos the whole trip for us oldies can
be done in a Leisurely 12 hours,

I found references to this temple, I saw this temple some 4 years ago but could not enter as the entrance ticket has to be purchased in the Luxor Temple ticket office. There is not much to see and that is the reason I incorporated this trip with a visit to Esna Temple of khnum .from the photos you can see what little is left of this one time Pharaonic Temple. I also think this temple was never finished looking at the stonework on the furthest Temple precinct. The first photo really sums up how many people visit this ancient site, the village photos on http://nilelife.blogspot.com/2009/07/temple-of-toud.html show how hard it would be to find this temple without a local Guide.

I am a retired stonmason. the reason I took this

photo with the cash card in the joint of the stone.

even with todays modern tools I could never make

joints where nowhere in all of this building can I put

anything thicker than my card. the reason I think this

area was never finished the stones are rough ,Ie, not

been smoothed off to make the hyroglific and no way

has this wall been reconstructed.
